Our Story

Like many golfers today, our passion for golf was ignited when we had nothing to do during the pandemic and were dragged to the course by friends that had been playing their whole lives. We were trash. But we instantly fell in love with the structure of golf - that your only real competition is your previous best - which encourages people of all skill sets to play together. Above all else, though, playing golf was just a really fun way to spend time with our friends. We were hooked.

As newer golfers, we also lacked a traditional golf closet. While we did invest in some common golf wear, we found ourselves wearing more athletic clothing we already owned when playing at courses where it wouldn’t be a problem. We were pretty annoyed with how physically restrictive golf apparel was compared to apparel for other sports. More significantly, however, we felt that there was a huge gap between our everyday closet and what we were supposed to be wearing for golf.

As we played more and more, we started to preach about the game to any non-golfers within earshot. Despite our frenetic lectures, we rarely convinced anyone that had never played to golf with us. That’s when we started to think about how many barriers to entry there are to becoming a "golfer". The cost of clubs, the cost of playing a round, along with the extreme difficulty, all make it very unlikely for anyone to give it a try. We felt the most significant barrier, however, was that it would be easy for anyone without a golf background, regardless of race, to drive past a course, observe the people playing, and think, “That’s not me.”

This thought struck us because one of the things that drew us to the game was that it’s fundamentally designed to allow anyone to play. The handicap system was literally created to make a match between a PGA tour player and someone that can’t break 100 even. We don’t believe that every person needs to golf. We just think it should be easier for people from all walks of life to give it a try and then determine for themselves if it’s something that they want to continue.

So, we decided we’d try to tackle both problems that we observed with one brand. On one front, we wanted to create modern, comfortable, and functional golf clothing that fits in with the rest of your closet. On the other, we wanted to raise money for golf programs that make it easier for kids from any background to play the game. And so, YOHO Golf and the 1% to Grow the Game initiative were born.

Let's grow the game.
